Using ah-ha! CNC software:

• Pentium or 486-66 or -100 Computer You'll need a reliable 100% IBM-compatible desktop PC (not a laptop). It sits next to your machine & ideally runs only the CNC software. It Must Have: Intel/AMD K6, K5, Pentium or 486 cpu, color VGA, dos, 16-bit ISA slot, 4mb RAM, 64K cache, 3.5" floppy, any size hard disk. It should be a reliable mini-tower type PC. To make life simple, we can supply you with the right PC, with Artisan already installed and ready to go! See computer details in Detailed Tech Data section.
 
• The ah-ha! software upgrade policy: For end-users: Full credit for your original software purchase when you upgrade! No other vendor treats you this fairly.
 
• IF cards Ah-ha! CNC software does NOT use cheap PC serial or parallel ports for motion control. Every Artisan package includes an industrial-grade noise-filtered Processing and Interface card, that we call "the IF card".
Our IF cards plug in to your PC and cable directly to our PowerSystem. If you're using your own drivers instead, order our Breakout Board & IF37 Cable to connect to them.
 
• IF16 Card This hi-performance card comes with Level-3 It gives almost double the max step rate of Level-2. It also includes 6 aux outs & 5 aux ins to control external devices.
 
• IF-OP Option Package This adds: 8 more aux outs, 5 more aux ins, a 10 volt analog output for spindle speed control etc., & an input for a lathe spindle encoder for threading. IF-OP option is $125.
 
• IFB card This basic card ships with Level-2. 4 aux-out & 4 aux-in.
 
• Accuracy & resolution... Artisan has it! Artisan calculates to the millionth of an inch. Absolute accuracy is limited solely by the quality of your machine. To keep cost low, our system is open-loop, just like the NC tools that built the Apollo and 747. The precision is in the motors.

• Feedrate override Fine tune the feedrate while cutting; to improve finish, etc...
Works from the +/- on the keypad, or from the PowerPanel.
 
• Threading With Level-3 and the Option Package, you get full threading capability: tapers, multi-starts, etc.. If you're still threading manually, do yourself a big favor: get an Artisan... soon!
 
• The best Restart facility in the business! If a tool breaks, you can interrupt, back up using the graphics display, and restart. Everything before that point is still taken into account, like G92's, G41's, etc. Really, really sweet!
 
• PLC PowerMacro's This powerhouse feature lets you write machine-specific PLC routines to fully automate turrets, toolchangers, and special-machines. You can control auxiliary inputs/outputs using macro bit-test/set capabilities. Includes repeating loops, mathematics within G-code files, time delays, & many other capabilities. Perfect for OEM's and retrofitters.
